Zurich. Land of "Ka-ching"

Money.

Zurich.

To go to Zurich, you must have the money.

Zurich is the most expensive city in the world. And on 23rd March, my Deutschkurs class had a trip to Zurich.

Herr Glanzmann and Frau Bolliger were the Chaperones for the trip. We met at the Bahnhof, on Gleis 4, the same place and time when we first met everyone on the first day. It's really unbelievable that Deutschkurs has ended. The trip is entirely on our own expense. So we bought the train tickets ourselves.

It wasn't a long train ride to Zurich. Maybe because I was chatting wit Jun Khee the whole way, I didn't realize. When we reached Zurich, we were like a bunch of Sakais. Seriously. We were all OHHing and AHHing at everything. The train station is HUGE. You know how many platforms are there? Well, neither do I :P But there's a lot. I remember seeing Gleis 70+ or something. Go google. I'm lazy.

We started by walking to the dock, where we were supposed to take the boat for a roundtrip around the lake and see Zurich. Unfortunately, being the Sakais that we are, we spent so much time snapping photos at the buildings and with each other, we were late to the dock. So Herr Glanzmann suggested that we go check out the Church.

The church is amazing. Well, it's not the type that has mural on the ceilings, but this is the first time I actually stepped into a REAL church, not like those modern types in Malaysia. Apparently the church was almost 100 years old, and the windows were painted by one of the most famous artists in Europe back in 1907. After that, we walked to a restaurant, and we were a bit of trouble for the waiter. Us being there in Zurich, and being here in Switzerland, we're always very price-conscious. And because they had to rush our lunch as we had to catch the boat, it made the waiter very uptight. We were asking "Wie viel kostet das?" and had to waste time to think whether it's worth ordering or not. Harry ended up ordering the speciality of the day (and the most expensive dish), Fish, and Maruly, Khee and I ordered the Meat. Panyada and Will ordered Sandwiches for themselves. I don't know about the other table, and we were sitting outside. The sky was clear and the weather was warm. It would be foolish of us if we chose to sit indoors, away from the beauty of nature. The food was superb, and the prices were OKAY if it was to be in Malaysian Ringgit. The fish costs 22Fr, meat 17.90fr, and the sandwich was 10fr. Harry ordered first, so he didn't know about the others' price. I ordered second, and asked about the price of the meat. Panyada and Will weren't planning to order, but then the waiter asked if they wanted sandwiches, which costs 10fr. In the end, they gave in to hunger. Our stomach were all growling like they were in a battle or something.

And then we were too slow, and was about to miss the boat again. So Herr Glanzmann suggested again to take the next boat, and bring us to the top of Zurich. "You were never in Zurich if you've never been there", he says. It was a long walk, but it was worth it. The scenery was nice, and there was a playground, trees which are bald, and 2 giant chess set. People ACTUALLY are playing chess with the giant chess set. They had to carry the pieces around and walk back to the end of the chess board. But what made it really, REALLY worth it was, hehehehheehehehehheehe, 4 lengzais from Germany. We even had a photo with them. Pei San was so daring, she just went straight up and asked if we could take a photo with them. I think it was very obvious that we were heads over heels with them cause the photo with them were only us girls. The guys were shaking their heads and embarrassed of what we're doing with the Germans.

The boat ride was boring. All we were seeing were houses around the lake. I even fell asleep when I got the chance to sit down. We had a few funny moments, here and there. Frau Bolliger said Harry looks like George Clooney, which was SUCH A LIE. Then she said he was too sweet to be George Clooney, and Herr Glanzmann sang out "Roses are red, Violets are blue. Sugar is sweet, so are you."

After the boat ride, we bid farewell to our 2 chaperones, and walked back to the trainstation to catch the Tram 11 to the park and meet up with all the other AFSers. Our legs were killing us, and when we met 3 Thai girls at the Tram stop. We got on the tram, and the tram took us to where we were at first, the dock. We were blaming Harry for being the Genius to bring us back all the way to the train station, which was a long walk, to be back there at the exact same spot. Met up with the other Malaysians, and I saw Michael from the orientation camp there. He's kind of the closest friend I met in the orientation, not including the other Malaysians and the people from Deutschkurs. He's a maniac. He knows Japanese, French, English and a little of Chinese. Apparently his interest is learning languages.

I went to Coop to buy beer. We shared a 10-pack with Will. He took 5 and we took 5. It costs only 1fr per bottle, which was very cheap. But the beer tastes awful. I was red when I finished the beer, and a bit hyped. We also met more asians, which we are very happy of. We get to speak CHINESE to other people besides among us Malaysians, and we also met a girl from Hong Kong. Immediately me and Khee were speaking Cantonese with her. Ahh.... it's like we finally released the knot in out tongues.

We left early, but a lot later than planned. We had chinese food at the train station, and it was the most delicious asian food we've had since being here. I ordered fried rice, which costs 9fr. It was a big plate, and I managed to finish it without any problem. There were soy sauce, too. Yes! So after dinner, was supposed to go check out their H&M, but they close early. Wow seriously. If all the shops in Malaysia closed to early, they wouldn't survive at all. Oh well.

And Pei San, KC, Khee and I cramped in a photobooth and took a photo. It was fun :D The booth was so small, it could only fit me and Pei San. KC and Khee had to stand outside the booth and reach their head in to fit in the camera.

I'd post the photos, but I'm much much much to tired now. School's starting tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!
